About Us

Volunteachthailand’s residential facility opened its doors in the spring of 2008.  Since then some 2000 volunteers of all ages and background have passed through our doors.

This residence is home to clients while they are in Bangkok.  There is a choice of private or shared accommodation in the main facility where up to 10 residents may stay comfortably at any one time.  The residence has a live-in housekeeper.  The facility is located within a gated residential community of private homes.  Security is 24 hours and strictly enforced.  No vehicle may enter or leave the community without showing the proper pass.  Security patrols are frequent.

The residence is a 5 minute walk to a main bus transportation hub which connects to Bangkok’s Skytrain and subway system.  Mo-chit, the bus terminal which services Chiang Mai and northern destinations to Cambodia and Laos is a short bus ride from the main residence.  Shopping and personal services are abundant.  One of Bangkok’s most popular malls, the Platinum Mall and a major high rise computer center, Panthip Plaza are just 15 minutes away by public transportation.

The administrator in charge of teacher placement and school liaison is bi-lingual in English and Thai.

The teacher trainer is currently the head of English at a Bangkok  International College.  The trainer has taught at all levels of the Thai system from elementary school through to PhD candidate students at one of  Bangkok's oldest universities.  He has served as a consultant to the 2nd year English program at Rajaphat University in Bangkok.  And he has taught a special program he created especially for the medical staff at Suvarhabhumi Airport.

Are we right for you?

There’s a wide range of volunteer placement agencies serving Thailand schools.  There is no one right agency for everyone.  But the following is a profile that we believe fits our client base:

You don’t need 4 or 5 star accommodation while you teach.  The clean, basic, Thai style accommodation provided by the school is all you need.  Besides, you would prefer to live in the community itself rather than at a central volunteer house with other westerners.  You didn’t come all this way to spend time with people you could meet back home.

 >You want to teach at a smaller, rural school away from the big cities.  But close enough so you can visit them on weekends.  You believe this is where the true Thai culture exists.

>You want some support to learn what and how to teach; some cultural guidelines so you don’t offend anyone unknowingly; and ongoing phone and email support during your placement.

>You want your fees to go towards services on the ground in Thailand; not to pay the expensive overheads of firms based in the west.
