Lopburi

Lopburi lies 3 hours north of Bangkok.  It's home to two of our placement partners:  a high school with some 400 students.  And a government-run school for the blind.

A feature of the high school is the recently renovated teacher's residence.  It's actually a stand alone two storey house right on the school property.  It's a 5 minute walk to a 7-11 and an evening market with outdoor sidewalk restaurants.  In the same area, volunteers can catch a bus or van and connect with Ayutthaya and Bangkok.

The school for the blind is badly in need of volunteers to read stories and teach English to its students.  But it is an emotionally challenging environment and we understand that it might not be a good fit for first-time volunteers.  But for professionals with this type of training, it would be ideal.  Volunteers can also be placed at a hospice for children suffering from AIDS.  That facility is about 30 minutes north of Lopburi.

Lopburi is known as the monkey capital of Thailand.  There is a yearly festival in honor of them at which an enormous cake of fruit and nuts is served just for them.

Shown here are some images from our placement programs in Lopburi:
